Fresno, Calif.-based Saint Agnes Care Brain & Spine Institute physicians perform 30 to 50 outpatient artificial disc replacement procedures in a year, according to The Business Journal.

1. Through advances in minimally invasive surgery and artificial discs, patients can undergo disc replacement surgery on an outpatient basis.

2. “When this was not an option, then patients did have more stiffness of their neck and some more neck pain on occasion,” said spine surgeon Ian Johnson, MD. “However, with the artificial disc, it allows for just a little bit of movement. It’s changed the outcomes.”

3. Saint Agnes Care also offers outpatient hip and knee replacements.
