Lafayette General Hospital transforming hospital into orthopedic center — 4 insights

Lafayette (La.) General Hospital will transform Lafayette (La.) General Southwest into an orthopedic center, while also maintaining an emergency room at the location, the Daily Advertiser reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The transition is expected to be complete by March 2018.

2. Lafayette General Southwest's cardiac services will be absorbed by Lafayette General Hospital.

3. Developers are upgrading Lafayette General Southwest's operating rooms and ancillary space to accommodate orthopedics. Two of the hospital's rooms will be dedicated to performing procedures with the Mako robotic-arm device. Nineteen total rooms will be remodeled for orthopedics.

4. Lafayette General Southwest will also feature long-term acute care services.
