The Supra Scan Multi-Spot Laser, which has a yellow light, was recently used to treat a patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Only one other laser of its kind is being used in the world, according to Quan Dong Nguyen, MD, the McGaw Memorial Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology and the director of the Truhlsen Eye Institute.
Diana Do, MD, director of the Carl Camras Center for Innovative Clinical Research at the institute, performed the first procedure.
The laser allows for more nuanced, problem-specific targeting. It may be more effective, efficient and safer than traditional lasers.
