Specially Calibrated LASIK Safe for High Cylinder Compound Myopic Astigmatism

LASIK surgery to correct compound myopic astigmatism with high cylinder was safe and effective when performed using a fast-repetition-rate excimer laser with optimized aspheric profiles and cyclotorsion control, according to a study in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

The study, performed in Spain, used the technique and specially calibrated equipment on 37 eyes of 29 patients ages 19 to 55. The procedure was likely to increase distance acuity for those who formerly had the specified astigmatism, and had no greater risk of higher-order aberrations.
