Ophthalmologist Dr. John W. Unruh Dead at 92

Ophthalmologist John W. Unruh, MD, has died, according to a News-Review obituary.

Dr. Unruh died August 1 in Roseburg, Ore. He was 92.

 

Dr. Unruh’s career as a physician and ophthalmologist began following his graduation from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1944 and continued until his retirement from his medical practice in 1992. He pioneered the use of lens implant surgery in Oregon in 1975 and radial keratotomy in the 1980s.

 

He studied techniques in the Netherlands, Norway, New York and in Moscow, Russia. From 1985-1987, he was the first ophthalmologist to perform cataract surgery in Wallowa Memorial Hospital, Enterprise, Ore.
