Ophthalmologist Dr. Gholam Peyman Receives National Medal of Technology and Innovation

Ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon Gholam A. Peyman, MD, has been named a recipient of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, according to an AZBio report.

Dr. Peyman is credited as the inventor of LASIK eye surgery. He currently serves as a faculty member at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and a professor of optical sciences and engineering at UA.

 

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is described as the “nation’s highest honor for technological achievement, bestowed by the President of the United States on America’s leading innovators.”

 

Dr. Peyman and 11 other inventors will receive their awards at a White House ceremony in early 2013.
