The procedures at the facility are performed by Edward Stack, MD, an ophthalmologist who founded the surgery center and the Michigan Vision Institute next door.
Dr. Stack is a regular volunteer at My Brother’s Keeper of Genesee County, a homeless shelter for men in Flint, where he met a man in need of cataract surgery five years ago. Since then, Dr. Stack has been offering this procedure for those in need at no cost.
“When Dr. Stack came to our shelter, he said this was his calling,” Debra Hayes, executive director of My Brother’s Keeper of Genesee County, told the publication. “Dr. Stack started his own surgery center so people wouldn’t get denied access because of their insurance [and] can get access to the laser surgeries he provides.”
