This is a drop from 2011 when 45 percent of ophthalmologists reported discussing costs with patients regularly. Among all doctors, 30 percent said they regularly discussed cost of treatment with patients in 2012.
Around 5 percent of ophthalmologists in 2012 said they never discuss the cost of treatment because they felt it was inappropriate and another 5 percent don’t discuss costs because they don’t know the cost of treatment.
