New ASC Development

Here are six ASCs that have opened or have plans to open in the Midwest that Becker's has reported on since June 26:

USA Health has opened a new ASC — the Mapp Family Campus Surgery Center, in Fairhope, Ala. — according to an Aug. 1 report from CBS affiliate WKRG. 

Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Bronson Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new orthopedic surgery center July 27.

Claremont, N.H.-based Valley Regional Hospital plans to begin construction on a 23,800-square-foot medical office building after receiving a decision on its proposed affiliation with Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth Health, according to a July 28 report from Valley News.

Iowa City, Iowa-based Steindler Orthopedic Clinic broke ground on a new practice location and ASC in North Liberty, Iowa, CBS affiliate Iowa News Now reported July 25. 

OrthoMidwest opened a new surgery center in Beloit, Wis., Beloit Daily News reported July 31. 

Tower Clock Eye Center, based in Green Bay, Wis., will open an ASC specializing in cataract, glaucoma and cornea surgeries, according to a July 28 report from the Green Bay Post Gazette.

Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente is planning an expansion of its West Los Angeles Medical Center Campus that will add a new surgery center and medical office building, according to a July 26 report from Urbanize.

As consumer interest in shopping malls has continued to decrease since the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare systems have started to fill the unused space. To date, space in more than 32 malls nationwide has been turned into healthcare facilities. 

UCHealth is set to spend around $119 million to expand its Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Hospital to alleviate the frequency at which the hospital operates at maximum capacity, NBC affiliate KUSA reported July 24.
