A physician or organization looking to build a new ASC has to think about several factors when settling on a location. Prominent among them are the area's average physician pay, friendliness to new businesses and the amount of competition.

Honolulu-based the Queen's Medical Center plans to open an ASC at its West Oahu location, according to a Nov. 10 report from Pacific Business News.

Healthcare developer Hammes broke ground on the 22,500-square-foot Blue River Surgery Center in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 1. 

Vancouver (Wash.) Clinic and healthcare real estate developer PMB opened a new facility with an ASC Nov. 4 in Vancouver.

The Gallatin Valley Mall in Bozeman, Mont., is undergoing a $50 million redevelopment that will turn a JCPenney into a 45,000-square-foot ASC from Broomfield, Colo.-based SCL Health and a clinic from Ortho Montana, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported Nov. 8. 

St. Tammany Health has begun work on a $75 million outpatient surgery expansion in Covington, La., nola.com reported Nov. 6. 

Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System has opened a 15,000-square-foot ASC at its Morristown Medical Center Health Pavilion in Rockaway, N.J., according to a Nov. 7 report from NJBiz. 

State College, Pa.-based Mount Nittany Health opened its new $90 million outpatient center in Patton, Pa., on Nov. 2.
