What you should know:

1. The clinic will feature an outpatient surgery center, several primary care services and a retail pharmacy.

2. The new location is intended to prevent patients in Southeast Minnesota from having to travel to La Crosse or Onalaska, Wis., for care.

3. Gunderson expects to open the 86,000-square-foot clinic in phases, beginning in late 2019.

4. Gundersen plans to continue its partnership with Winona Health.

“I think there will be some level of competition between Winona Health and Gundersen but hopefully it’s good competition and the people of Winona benefit,” said Winona Mayor Mark Peterson.

5. The development is expected to create about 100 new jobs.

6. Gundersen’s existing clinic in Winona will continue providing care.
