Ellis Medicine receives approval for $13.64M surgical center — 4 insights

Clifton Park, N.Y.-based Ellis Medicine received state approval for its $13.64 million, 40,000-square-foot surgical center, The Daily Gazette reports.

1. The health system announced the center in September 2017 but is waiting to begin construction until it finalizes its business plan.

2. Ellis Medicine wants to provide Clifton Park residents a surgical option in their neighborhood to prevent prospective patients from traveling to other facilities.

3. The nonprofit health system is financially healthy, but it has a narrow operating margin, according to The Daily Gazette.

4. The surgery center will be a joint venture between Ellis and its physician group. Ellis will maintain a majority of the control.
