HHS proposes launch of new patient safety database: 3 key takeaways

HHS’ Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality asked the White House to launch a patient safety database as more ASCs open across the U.S.

The AHRQ cited concerns about patient safety and public health as reasons for submitting the request.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Participation in the database is voluntarily.

2. The database will publicly post patient safety results from volunteering ASCs while providing data to ASCs on how to improve internal assessments.

3. It will also provide additional information to help ASCs identify their strengths, as well as areas needing improvement in patient safety culture.
