Downeast Surgery Center replacing old facility with $7M ASC — 5 facts

Bangor, Maine-based Downeast Surgery Center broke ground on a new facility to replace its current 28-year-old facility, Fox 22 WFVX Bangor reports.

Here are five facts:

1. The new $7 million facility will also be located in Bangor. It will feature updated equipment, larger rooms, an additional operating room and an air filtration system designed to prevent infection.

2. The privately owned building will provide outpatient joint replacement.

3. Ten physicians will see patients at the facility. Surgeons and nurses from the old facility will move to the new space, along with one new surgeon.

4. The construction on the new building began July 18 and is expected to wrap up in May 2019.

5. John Pyne, MD, is Downeast Surgery Center's president. The ASC is affiliated with Downeast Orthopedics.
