33 joint venture ASCs opened & announced in 2018

Here are 33 new ASC joint ventures opened or announced over the past year:

Lincoln, Neb.-based Bryan Medical Center opened a new medical building with an outpatient surgery center. The building is a joint venture between Bryan Medical Center and 76 physician investors.

Mass.-based Hallmark Health System developed plans to build an ASC at its Lawrence Memorial Hospital campus in Medford, Mass., through a joint venture with Shields Health Care Group of Quincy, Mass., and physician groups.

Roslyn, N.Y.-based St. Francis Hospital of Catholic Health Services of Long Island partnered with Westchester, Ill.-based Regent Surgical Health to open the East Hills (N.Y.) Surgery Center.

Jefferson Health, Rothman Institute, NueHealth and several Philadelphia physicians formed a joint venture to open the Jefferson Surgery Center in Cherry Hill (N.J.). Jefferson Health and the Rothman Institute are based in Philadelphia, while NueHealth is based in Leawood, Kan.

New Hanover Surgical Center and OWP4, both based in Wilmington, N.C., requested a certificate of need approval for a joint venture ASC with one OR and two procedure rooms.

Hurst, Texas-based Cook Children's Northeast Hospital closed as a hospital April 20 and became an ASC named Cook Children's Surgery Center. The ASC is operated as a joint venture between Cook Children's, NueHealth and physician investors.

Stuart, Fla.-based Martin Health System, Raleigh, N.C.-based Compass Surgical Partners and a group of physician investors opened the Stuart Surgery Center.

Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services began construction on a new ASC at its St. Vincent Medical Center campus. The center is a partnership between 18 local physician-investors, Providence's Oregon Region and Deerfield, Ill.-based Surgical Care Affiliates.

Medical Facilities Corp. acquired seven ASCs for $46.5 million through its joint venture with NueHealth.

Annapolis, Md.-based Anne Arundel Medical Center and Surgical Care Affiliates partnered with plans to open two outpatient surgery centers in early 2019.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health began constructing a joint venture ambulatory surgical treatment center with Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International in Rutherford County, Tennessee.

Port Jefferson (N.Y.) Surgery Center held its grand opening ceremony May 12. The center was developed as a joint venture between 19 community surgeons, Port Jefferson-based Mather Hospital and Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III.

Bozeman (Mont.) Health and USPI partnered to build a $20 million ASC in West Bozeman.

Advanced Surgical Care of Boerne (Texas) opened a surgery center in Boerne and completed its first outpatient total joint replacement. Towson, Md.-based SurgCenter Development developed the center through a partnership.

New Lenox, Ill.-based Silver Cross Hospital opened a freestanding ASC in New Lenox through a joint venture with independent physicians and USPI.

Westchester, Ill.-based Regent Surgical Health partnered with 14 physicians to open a joint venture surgery center, Oregon Surgical Institute in Beaverton.

NueHealth partnered with Rothman Institute, Jefferson Health and 14 multispecialty physicians to acquire the Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based Blue Bell Surgery Center.

Clifton Park, N.Y.-based Ellis Medicine received state approval for its $13.64 million, 40,000-square-foot surgical center, which will be operated as a joint venture between Ellis and its physician group. Ellis will maintain a majority of the control.

Three Albany, N.Y.-based provider groups broke ground on an ASC and medical office building in Colonie, N.Y. The development is a joint venture between Albany ENT & Allergy Services, Ortho NY and St. Peter's Hospital. Everett Surgery Center will occupy 22,000 square feet of the facility.

Baton Rouge (La.) General and Baton Rouge-based Vascular Specialty Center opened Mid City (La.) Specialty Center, a 12,000-square-foot ASC specializing in minimally invasive vascular procedures.

The Grand View Surgery Center in Harleysville, Pa., opened in April. The surgery center is a joint venture between Sellersville, Pa.-based Grand View Health and Grand View Health Medical Staff surgeons.

Hartford, Conn.-based St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and Hartford-based Lighthouse Surgery Holdings partnered to build the Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center in Hartford.

Morgantown, W. Va.-based Mon Health System partnered with physicians to operate a surgery center at its new campus in Morgantown, W. Va.

Lenoir, N.C.-based Caldwell UNC Health Care and a group of eight surgeons teamed up to build a $7.1 million orthopedic ASC in Granite Falls.

Lincoln, Neb.-based Bryan Health completed the Lincoln-based Doctors Outpatient Surgery Center. The ASC is a joint venture between Bryan Health and 76 area physicians.

Construction began on the Fort Myers, Fla.-based Performance Health Surgery Center, a joint venture between Compass Surgical Partners and five surgeons.

Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Northwest Community Healthcare bought a majority stake in Des Plaines, Ill.-based Weil Regenerative Surgery Center, and the pair launched a joint venture to provide podiatric care.

Medford (Mass.) Surgery Center developed plans to construct a freestanding ASC on the former Lawrence Memorial Hospital campus in Medford. Medford Surgery Center is a joint venture by Quincy, Mass.-based Shields ASC, MelroseWakefield Healthcare and Boston-based Tufts Medical Center Physician Organization.

USPI secured a $23.46 million loan to build a surgery center in West Palm Beach, Fla. The project is a joint venture between USPI's parent company, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, and New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.

West Reading, Pa.-based Tower Health formed a joint venture with USPI to develop ASCs in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Tennessee's Health Services and Development Agency approved Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health's application to relocate its Madison, Tenn.-based joint venture ASC to Hendersonville, Tenn. The center is a joint venture between Saint Thomas Health and USPI.

Allentown, Pa.-based Coordinated Health and Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System signed a definitive agreement to partner on an ASC.

Sidney, Ohio-based Wilson Health formed a joint venture with Piqua, Ohio-based Valley Regional Surgery Center to expand its outpatient care and surgical capacity.
