City Place Surgery Center (Creve Coeur, Mo.). The surgery center has 25 physician owners. The 13,900-square-foot facility was opened in 2000 and includes four operating rooms. It provides surgical services in numerous specialties, such as pain management, plastic surgery, orthopedics and spine surgery, including minimally invasive spine surgery. Earlier this year, St. Louis Spine Surgery Center relocated its operations to City Place Surgery Center. It is licensed by the state of Missouri and accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.

Creekside Surgery Center (Anchorage, Alaska). There are 17 physician owners at the ASC, which was opened in 2010. "While we are here to provide excellent patient care, our primary customer is our physicians," says Sue Sumpter, administrator at the center. "As a facility we always try to answer 'yes' and then figure out how to make it happen for our physicians. Quick room turnovers, etc., and being efficient will allow the physician to complete their cases in less time allowing them to complete more cases in a day or have additional personal time. Our physician partners are encouraged to participate in guiding the center and work with our board of managers in the operation of our center."

The center is a joint venture between local surgeons and Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services. Its surgeons provide surgery services for orthopedics, ENT, podiatry, pain management and spine procedures. It has also developed a total joint program.

Mallard Creek Surgery Center (Charlotte, N.C.). The center includes 21 physicians. The ASC offers treatments in a wide array of specialties, including foot and ankle surgery, knee surgery, hand and elbow surgery, shoulder surgery, spine surgery and cartilage restoration. Newport Beach (Calif.) Surgery Center.  The surgery center includes 39 physician owners. The multispecialty ASC provides treatments in numerous specialties, such as gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, infertility, ENT, orthopedics, cosmetic surgery, podiatry, urology and vascular surgery.

Orthopedic Surgery Center of Orange County (Newport Beach, Calif.). The surgery center has approximately 20 physician owners. According to Gabrielle White, RN, CASC, executive director, ambulatory services and network development at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, managing physician expectations and satisfaction is all about understanding what they want.

"Time, convenience and competence are a few things I see as being important to surgeons," she says. "Our surgeons expect the rooms to be run efficiently and on time without compromising safety. They appreciate having the equipment they need in good working order to do the best for their patients and they expect to work with a competent team who work well together and enjoy the work. To help accomplish [that], we have good communication with the physicians, try to work with them, even on the almost impossible, and provide a great environment for the staff where they are appreciated and feel safe to speak up. For the most [part], everyone is happy. Happy team equals happy doctors equals great environment equals happy patients."

The 14,000-sqaure-foot surgery center, a subsidiary of Hoag Orthopedic Institute, was established in 1999. The center includes four operating rooms and provides a wide array of services, including fracture repair, hand surgeries, spine surgeries and total hip replacement. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and licensed by the state of Florida. It offers care in a number of specialties, including orthopedics, oral surgery, podiatry, ophthalmology, plastic surgery as well as pain management.

The multispecialty outpatient facility includes six surgical suites, two procedure rooms, a preoperative suite with four patient bays, four private rooms and a sizeable post anesthesia care unit.
