Wills Eye Hospital receives $5M gift — 4 insights

Vickie and Jack Farber donated $5 million to Philadelphia-based Wills Eye Hospital to create the Vickie and Jack Farber Vision Research Center, the Longview News-Journal reports.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The Farbers previously donated $2 million to Wills Eye to recruit Leslie Hyman, PhD, to begin a research program at the hospital.

2. The most recent gift will expand that research program.

3. Mr. Farber said, “Wills Eye is a great institution with incredibly talented people who are motivated, forward thinking and committed to advancing scientific knowledge. If you put those energies together with financial support to accelerate the rate of progress, you truly make a difference in patients’ lives.”

4. The Farbers established a similar research institute at Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University.
