The trends shaping Texas’ ASC market

The business and operations of ASCs tend to vary greatly by state, as many laws regulating the ASC space differ on state-by-state basis.

Krista DuRapau, executive director of the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society, recently joined Becker’s to discuss what trends she sees shaping Texas’ ASC market specifically.

Editor’s note: This response has been lightly edited for clarity and length:

Question: What’s the most concerning ASC trend on your mind right now?

Krista DuRapau: Right now, many ASCs are watching the CMS proposal to remove the inpatient-only list and make changes to the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality Reporting Program. Additionally, centers are gearing up for the fourth quarter’s procedures and the heavy volume that will be here in the next few months.

For the past few years, attracting and retaining staff has, unfortunately, been an issue for the healthcare industry.

Some facilities are also wondering how to incorporate new technologies, especially in this day and age of AI.

At the end of the day, ambulatory surgery centers are focused on compliance, patient care, and satisfaction, and the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society provides opportunities for centers to learn, to grow, and to continue providing high-quality, cost-effective care.
