Tenet’s CEO is among the highest paid healthcare CEO 

Saum Sutaria, MD, CEO of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare makes $11 million annually, according to AFL-CIO

AFL-CIO ranked the highest-paid CEOs from S&P 500 and Rusell 3,000 companies to develop a report on the highest-paid top executives for healthcare organizations in 2023. 

Here are four things to know about Dr. Sutaria:

1. Dr. Sutaria, who was named CEO of Tenet in 2021, worked for consulting firm McKinsey & Co. as an adviser for healthcare and private equity practices for 18 years before joining Tenet in 2019. 

2. He is a cardiologist and internal medicine specialist, and previously held an associate clinical faculty appointment at the University of California at San Francisco.

3. He received an MD from the University of California, San Diego, and a BS in molecular and cellular biology and a BA in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Saum also served on the faculty of UC San Francisco.
