Self-employed female physicians earn more: Medscape

Self-employed female physicians on average earn $6,000 more per year than their employed counterparts, according to Medscape’s 2023 Female Compensation Report.

The survey includes more than 10,000 respondents across 29 specialities. The data for the report was collected between Oct. 7, 2022, and Jan. 17, 2023. 

Here’s what self employed female physicians, and physicians as a whole, make on average annually:

Self-employed female physicians: $305,000

Employed female physicians: $299,000

Self-employed physicians: $374,000

Employed physicians: $344,000
