EHR use is harder for ASC physicians — 3 takeaways

A KLAS survey found 66 percent of nurses are happy with their organization's EHR, but satisfaction is much lower for physicians, according to Simplify ASC, a management platform provider.

Simplify ASC product manager Mary Brunson penned a blog post explaining why physicians and nurses experience EHRs differently. Three takeaways:

1. Many ASC nurses come from hospitals and health systems, so they often have greater exposure to EHRs.

"For them, it's an easy transition when they start to work in an ASC," said DeeDee Dalke, a solutions consultant at Simplify ASC and former ASC administrator.

2. ASC nurses have more input in EHR customization and tailoring the system to their needs.

"They know it saves them steps, and it serves as a safety net," Ms. Dalke said.

3. While nurses use the same system on a daily basis, physicians may switch between different systems in their private offices and the ASC.
