Six recommendations:
1. Establish benchmarks for every position in the business offices.
2. Hold weekly or monthly face-to-face meetings.
3. If someone makes an error in precertification, have that person correct the error so they can learn from it.
4. Don’t rely on online insurance verification to verify coverage for a specific procedure.
5. Make sure staff members’ duties are segregated appropriately.
6. Within 72 hours of an operation, have all claims filed, coded and ready to bill.
