6% of ASCs laid off management in 2019

In the past two years, management layoffs have been rare for ASCs, according to OR Manager's 2019 Salary/Career Survey.

OR Manager collected data from 196 ASC leaders from March 28 to May 31. Respondents were either OR Manager subscribers or part of an external list.

Twenty-two insights on ASC staffing matters:

Hired more direct care staff
2019: 40 percent
2018: 35 percent

Reduced use of overtime
2019: 34 percent
2018: 36 percent

Reduced use of agency/travel (registered nurses/surgical technologists)
2019: 24 percent
2018: 26 percent

Increased use of agency/travel (RNs/STs)
2019: 20 percent
2018: 20 percent

Eliminated open positions
2019: 19 percent
2018: 25 percent

Required staff to take time off without pay
2019: 14 percent
2018: 20 percent

Hired more management
2019: 11 percent
2018: 10 percent

Had layoffs of management
2019: 6 percent
2018: 6 percent

Had layoffs of direct care staff (RNs/STs)
