University of Louisville awarded $11.5M grant to study liver disease: 3 notes

The Kentucky-based University of Louisville has received a five-year $11.5 million grant from the NIH’s Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

1. The study will be led by Craig McClain, MD, the university’s associate vice president for health affairs and research.

2. The researchers will study liver cancer, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease.

3. The funds will support research on the development and progression of liver diseases, with a focus on the effect of environmental toxicology on liver disease.
