Here’s what you should know:
1. Dr. Strickland was recruited to UNM as an associate professor and chief of gastroenterology.
2. During his 45-year career, he earned tenure professor status and helped the gastroenterology department earn national recognition for both teaching and research. He also became chairman of the department of internal medicine and held the position of chief of staff.
3. Current UNM Chief of Gastroenterology Tomas Ma, MD, said in a release, “Dr. Strickland has been the single most important individual in the history of UNM GI Division and UNM Department of Medicine and embodies all that is good in academic medicine. He is a shining example of lifelong service and excellence and devotion to UNM.”
