The class of '18 — AGA names 18 gastroenterologists to Future Leaders Program

The American Gastroenterological Association named 18 gastroenterologists in its second Future Leaders Program class.

Here's what you should know.

1. The AGA created the Future Leaders Program in 2015 to identify early career gastroenterologists who have potential.

2. The AGA provides those selected with a pathway to support the gastroenterology profession, advance their careers, connect with mentors and develop leadership skills.

The 2017-18 class includes:

  • Arthur Beyder, MD, PhD. Assistant Professor of Physiology and Medicine at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic;
  • Brigid S. Boland, MD. Assistant Adjunct Professor at UC San Diego;
  • Lea Ann Chen, MD. Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York City-based New York University School of Medicine;
  • Bruno P. Chumpitazi, MD, Director of the Neurogastroenterology and Motility Program at Houston-based Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine, Houston;
  • Matthew A. Ciorba, MD. Assistant Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis;
  • Katherine S. Garman, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Medical Center;
  • Christina Y. Ha, MD. Assistant Professor of Medicine at UC Los Angeles' David Geffen School of Medicine;
  • Bryson W. Katona, MD, PhD. Instructor of Medicine at Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania;
  • Peter S. Liang, MD, Instructor at New York City-based New York University/Manhattan VA;
  • Folasade P. May, MD, PhD. Assistant Professor of Medicine, at UC Los Angeles;
