A MedPage Today article cited dietary modification, rifaximin and Boca Raton, Fla.-based IM HealthScience’s IBgard as the disease’s three effective interventions.

Here are three things to know:

1. Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Assistant Director Ali Rezaie, MD, said dietary restriction is a difficult option because “dietary restriction can affect quality of life, sometimes more than the [IBS-M] symptoms themselves.”

2. Dr. Rezaie argued alternating laxatives and anti-diarrheal medication complicates the situation.

3. Several providers praised IBgard’s ability to treat IBS-M.
