Study: More Weight Loss in Bariatric Surgery Than Standard Care

Bariatric surgery has substantially higher efficacy than standard care for reducing weight in severely obese adults, according to a report by Obesity Reviews.

Compared with standard care, mean differences in body mass index were highest for predominantly diversionary procedures, including jejunoileal bypass, mini-gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion and sleeve gastrectomy.

 

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery had higher weight-loss efficacy than adjustable gastric banding but more serious adverse effects, according to a report by Obesity Reviews.
