Study: Metformin Therapy May Reduce Risk of Colon Cancer in Diabetics

Researchers from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China have found that metformin treatment lowers the risk of colorectal cancer in patients with type two diabetes, according to a news release.

The researchers analyzed five studies from Jan. 1966-Mar. 2011, which consisted of 108,161 participants, to look for links between metformin and colon cancer incidence. The analysis revealed a 37 percent decrease in risk.
