Carle Health and Christie Clinic, both based in Champaign, Ill., have opened the Champaign Endoscopy Center, according to a Sept. 2 news release.
The new center, which expands the groups’ partnership to address rising demand for digestive health services in the region, will offer upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures.
The opening comes amid a rise in colon cancer diagnoses among younger adults. Colon cancer is now the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men under 50 and second only to breast cancer in women, according to the American Cancer Society.
“Increased access to colonoscopy is especially important, as it remains the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening, offering the opportunity to detect cancer early and prevent it through the removal of precancerous polyps,” Matt Strack, director of Carle Physician Group’s Digestive Health Institute, said in the release.
