Study Confirms Link Between Diabetes, Colon Cancer

A review of the literature shows that people with diabetes have a somewhat higher risk of colon cancer, but it is unclear why this is so and what should be done about it, according to an American Journal of Gastroenterology report.

Reviewing 14 studies, researchers found that people with diabetes were 38 percent more likely to be diagnosed with colon cancer than those who were diabetes-free. Also, men with diabetes showed a higher risk for rectal cancer.

 

However, the lead researcher in the study did not call for more frequent colon cancer screenings of people with diabetes.
