Stem Cell Infusion May Be Viable Crohn’s Disease Treatment, Study Says

The initial results from an Australian clinical trial shown mesenchymal stem cell infusion may be a treatment option for patients with moderate to severe Crohn’s disease who have failed conventional therapies, according to a Science Network report.

A phase II clinical trial is underway at the Department of Gastroenterology at Royal Perth Hospital in Australia among several medical institutes and the Cell and Tissue Therapies WA.

Out of 15 patients that completed the trial, 12 of them responded to the treatment. Eight of them went into disease remission.
