Spotlight on Gastroenterologist: Dr. Irving Pike

Irving Pike, MD, FACG, is president of Gastroenterology Consultants in Virginia Beach, Va., and assistant professor of clinical internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. He has a strong background in general gastroenterology, with special interests in endoscopic management of biliary and pancreatic disease, inflammatory bowel disease and the prevention of colon cancer. He was named to the Becker’s ASC Review list of “28 of the Best Gastroenterologists in America.”

Dr. Pike is a graduate of Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. He continued his training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Dallas and remain there for his gastroenterology fellowship.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Pike has experience as a healthcare executive, having worked part-time for 11 years in different roles for for Sentara Health Care, including part-time capacity as vice president of medical affairs at Sentara Bayside Hospital for five years.

Dr. Pike has written and lectured on gastroenterology practice management and quality improvement in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. He is the current chairman of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy’s Ambulatory Endoscopy Special Interest group and recently co-chaired the American College of Gastroenterology and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy’s joint taskforce for developing Endoscopic Quality Indicators.
