Researchers Predict 65M More Obese Adults in U.S. by 2030

Using a simulation model, researchers at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and at Oxford University forecast 65 million more obese adults in the United States by 2030, according to a Lancet report.

As a result, medical costs associated with obesity would increase by $48 billion to $66 billion per year in the United States alone.

 

The extra costs would result from treating millions of additional cases of diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer linked to obesity.
