Millions of overweight Americans have begun taking Qnexa, an obesity drug that increases the chances of birth defects and heart problems in those who take it.
Regulators are working to develop restrictive standards to exclude pregnant women from taking the drug and hope to provide a training program for physicians and limit distribution of the pill to certified mail order pharmacies.
