What you should know:
1. Jamison, Pa.-based Physicians Endoscopy and Silver Spring, Md.-based Capital Digestive Care created the platform for independent gastroenterology groups seeking an alternative to acquisition.
2. Gastroenterologists will retain ownership of their practices, while the platform will manage business-related operations.
3. Physicians Endoscopy looked to Capital Digestive because it is the largest private gastroenterology practice in the Mid-Atlantic states and already had an established Managed Services Organization.
4. Platform President Kevin Harlen said the venture aims to disrupt the market. Physicians Endoscopy President David Young echoed the sentiment, saying: “This is in response to the needs of the market. It will help position gastroenterologists for the future of healthcare and protect the independent practice of medicine. We will have a solution that gives doctors a practice management solution and an ASC solution. That means one partner for all the needs within the GI space.”
