Thiruvengadam Muniraj, MD, has been named associate editor of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the official journal of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Nashville-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center's former director of the system's division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, Raymond Burk, MD, died on May 1 at the age of 80, according to a May 3 report from the VUMC Reporter.

Crohn's disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the tissues in the digestive tract, impacts over half a million Americans every year, including a number of well-known celebrities and figureheads. 

Denver-based Gastro Care Partners, a provider of gastroenterology services in Colorado and Wyo., has added David Pyle as its new CEO. 

Management services company GI Alliance has partnered with the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, becoming its first group member, to advance the practice of gastroenterology. 

Exton, Pa.-based U.S. Digestive Health has relocated its office to a shopping center in Downingtown, Pa., to join its affiliated endoscopy center, Central Chester County Endoscopy. 

Gastroenterologist pay has risen 11 percent in the last year, reaching $501,000 annually and outpacing the average specialty physician pay by $119,000. 

Bushra Sulieman, MD, a practicing gastroenterologist at Mercy Iowa City's Gastroenterology Clinic, was stabbed to death in Sudan, according to an April 27 report from ABC affiliate KCRG.

A video showcasing actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's getting colonoscopies has received an award from the 27th annual Webby Awards, an international award honoring internet-based excellence, CTV News Vancouver reported April 26.
