The researchers pooled data from 1.57 million adults enrolled in 14 prospective studies. They analyzed BMI, waist circumference and type II diabetes mellitus with risk of liver cancer, with additional consideration for characteristics like age, sex and smoking status.

1. BMI was associated with higher risk of liver cancer; this risk was more noteworthy for men than for women. This association with BMI varied by hepatitis infection status.
2. Waist circumference was associated with higher risk of liver cancer; this risk was approximately equal by sex.
3. Type II diabetes mellitus was associated with higher risk of liver cancer.
