Albany (N.Y.) Gastroenterology Consultants has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit stemming from a November 2024 security incident, according to an Aug. 6 report from Claim Depot.
Patients who received direct notice from the practice about the breach potentially compromising their private information could be eligible to claim up to $2,500.
In November 2024, an unauthorized actor accessed the practice’s network and acquired certain personal information. Names and Social Security numbers were among the personal information affected in the breach.
The lawsuit alleged that the practice failed to adequately protect patient data. Albany Gastroenterology Consultants has denied any wrongdoing, but both sides agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of ongoing litigation, the report said.
