Modernizing Medicine to acquire gMed: 5 things to know

Modernizing Medicine has signed a definitive agreement to acquire gastroenterology EHR company gMed.

Here are five things to know about the two companies and the transaction.

1. Modernizing Medicine’s flagship product is Electronic Medical Assistant, a cloud-based specialty-specific EMR system. The system caters to dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, ENT, gastroenterology, urology and plastic surgery.

2. The acquisition of gMed will allow Modernizing Medicine to expand its gastroenterology market share.

3. In addition to offering a GI-specific EHR, gMed also offers an endoscopy report writer, practice management solution, data analytics tool and revenue cycle management.

4. Joe Rubinsztain, MD, CEO and founder of gMed, will be the president of gMed and become a part of the Modernizing Medicine senior management team.

5. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
