MIT Researchers Develop 3-D Colonoscopy Technique

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge have developed photometric stereo endoscopy, a new colonoscopy technique that produces three-dimensional images of the colon’s surface, according to a MITnews report.

The researchers produced a 35 millimeter prototype and a 14 millimeter prototype. The prototypes, tested on an artificial silicon colon, were found to be capable of creating 3-D images of polyps and flatter lesions.
