MIT in Cambridge, Mass., and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, have launched the multidisciplinary Center for Microbiome Informatics and Therapeutics.
Ramnik Xavier, MD, PhD, chief of gastroenterology and director of the Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at MGH, and Eric Alm, PhD, an association professor of biological engineering at MIT, serve as co-directors of the new center.
The center has a $25 million expandable fund that will support research for its first five years. In addition to funding research proposals, the center will seek to recruit new talent to the microbiome field.
