Is colorectal cancer in young adults on the rise?

Colorectal cancer screening in the United States is focused on adults age 50 or older, but a new study has found that incidence of CRC in this population is on the decline and on the rise in younger individuals, according to Reuters report.

The study predicts, if current trends continue, the number of CRC cases in adults ages 20 to 34 will double by 2030. The rate for adults 35 years to 49 years old could grow by 28 percent to 46 percent.

The lead study author said that, as of yet, it is unclear what is causing the rise in CRC in younger adults.
