Microbiome analysis has potential to improve CRC detection

Fecal microbiome analysis has the potential to improve the accuracy of fecal occult blood testing for colorectal cancer, according to a Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News report.

The recent study found the addition of microbiome analysis helped identify high-risk patients, who should undergo colonoscopy screening. The study’s authors concluded that microbiome analysis should be used in conjunction with FOBT, rather than as a replacement.
