Medscape names gastroenterologist Dr. Basil Hirschowitz one of the most influential physicians in history

Medscape released the second part of its “The 50 Most Influential Physicians in History” list, which includes a nod to gastroenterologist Basil Hirschowitz, MD.

Dr. Hirschowitz had training in cardiology, as well as gastroenterology. He participated in partnerships aimed at improving visualization of the GI tract. Additionally, his research contributed to the diagnosis of Groll- Hirschowitz syndrome, a rare genetic condition.

Dr. Hirschowitz died in 2013.
