What you should know:

1. The 700-square-foot suite is in the Physicians Building on Pen Bay’s campus. It doubled the hospital’s gastroenterology space. It features six exam rooms, a waiting room and office space.

2. The hospital built the suite to handle increased demand for colonoscopies and general gastroenterology care.

3. Pen Bay Gastroenterology medical director Kirk Bernadino, MD, cut the ribbon on the new center and used the occasion to remind patients to not delay normal preventive screenings because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The risk of deferring screenings for colorectal cancer, for example, are far greater than the risk of COVID-19,” Dr. Bernadino said.
