Illinois GI group learns to save in the MACRA era — 4 things to know

The Illinois Gastroenterology Group in Elgin found a way to save money in the new MACRA reform era, according to MedPage Today.

Here are four things to know:

1. IGG sends monthly alerts to patients’ phones with a questionnaire that assesses patients’ symptoms and identifies patients requiring immediate medical attention.

2. Through the pings, IGG found a 10 percent reduction cost in just one year.

3. Lawrence R. Kosinski, MD, MBA, a gastroenterologist at IGG, developed the payment model in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.

4. Under the new payment model, response rates rose from 27 percent to 80 percent.
