“Unlike a standard optical colonoscopy, a virtual colonoscopy creates a computer generated 3-D rendering of the colon — the newest techniques digitally removing stool without traditional cleansing,” said Dr. Ravi Mani, Bay Area Gastroenterology consultant, in the release. “This revolutionary colonoscopy without laxatives is likely to be approved for clinical use later. While traditional virtual colonoscopy, like standard colonoscopy, still requires a laxative preparation, the procedure is relatively pain free and does not require sedation.”

Bay Area Gastroenterology has offices in Houston, Webster and Pearland, Texas, according to its website.
