High-Volume Hospitals May Offer Better Colorectal Surgery Recovery Rates

The study set out to determine whether or not colorectal surgery patients at high-volume hospitals were more likely to be discharged to home or a skilled rehabilitation facility.

The researchers found patients at high-volume hospitals were significantly more likely to be discharged to home, rather than a skilled rehabilitation facility.

The study concludes that results are the first step toward identifying what high-volume hospitals do to contribute to desirable outcomes. Low-volume hospitals may use this information to adopt best practices and improve patient recovery times.
