Hennepin Healthcare installs 1st automated endoscope reprocessor in the US — 4 insights

Minneapolis-based Hennepin Healthcare partnered with Cantel Medical to install the nation's first Advantage Plus Pass-Thru Automated Endoscope Reprocessor.

Here's what you should know:

1. The automated reprocessor features a physical barrier separating clean and dirty reprocessing areas.

2. The reprocessor will be installed in Hennepin's new clinic and specialty center.

3. The reprocessor is one of several devices the health system is installing to ensure endoscopes are reprocessed effectively. The others include power life sinks to reduce fatigue, a leak detection system, endoscope cassettes to hold processed scopes and digital cabinets that track drying and storage times, while allowing only authorized parties to access the scopes.

4. Hennepin Healthcare's Sterile Processing Department Manager Uggen Jigmey said, "The current industry standards are not enough to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes. We had a vision to elevate endoscope reprocessing well beyond the industry’s current standard practices so our staff and patients can be confident in the quality of endoscope being used."
